What is LEAP WRQ?

Leading Effective Action Program for Women in Regional Queensland (LEAP WRQ) is an initiative to expand career opportunities for women in regional Queensland – commencing with Bowen, Clermont and Biloela.

Through place-based activities, we showcase local opportunities and create positive confidence-building experiences for women who don’t always see themselves with the required skills to achieve the career they want.

Through guided ‘career advice’ via in-person and virtual sessions, we incrementally build confidence and skills. Gaining the confidence to ‘have a go’ or see oneself ‘in the picture’ is often the greatest hurdle – and certainly a critical turning point.

LEAP WRQ goals

  • Develop personal skills and capacities, with a focus on employment readiness.

  • Identify local opportunities and leaders already present but underutilised by the community.

  • Build local networks and create opportunities for work readiness activities, such as creating a personal résumé, how to approach a potential employer, preparing for an interview, honestly self-assessing skills and more.

  • Provide tools and opportunities for our participants – so that they can build local connections that work for them.

What happens in the program?

Up to twenty women in each location (Bowen, Clermont and Biloela) will have the opportunity to complete individual tailored coaching sessions, with support to build personal career maps, a tailored Local Opportunity Portfolio with our Career Personal Development Toolkit. Complemented by collaborative learning and mentoring, as well as dedicated personalised sessions, participants will develop confidence and capacity, and learn to identify and build personal opportunity.
